Before you write
Include your device, operating system, fewlines version from Settings, and what you expected to happen. For sync issues, include the status shown in iCloud sync. A screenshot helps, but please hide private book text and account details. Do not send passwords or your Apple Account credentials.
How do I add or change a book?
Choose Add books or the + button in Library. Import from Files, or browse Project Gutenberg or Unglue.it. On Mac you can also use File → Import books… or open a supported book with fewlines from Finder. Choose Change the book on Home, then select a title in Library.
Which files work?
EPUB without DRM and common text documents, including TXT, Markdown, HTML, FB2, DOCX and ODT. PDFs must contain selectable text; scanned pages are not recognized. fewlines extracts text for reading cards rather than reproducing the original page layout. Protected Kindle and Apple Books purchases cannot be imported by removing their protection.
Why is another device showing an older card?
Use the same Apple Account and enable Settings → iCloud sync on each device. Connect to the internet, open fewlines on both devices and choose Sync now. Background updates and widget refreshes are scheduled by the operating system, so they may be delayed, especially after you force-quit the app. Check the status in iCloud sync for connection or storage errors.
What happens when I switch sync off?
Books remain readable on that device. New cloud requests stop, including from the Mac widget; a transfer already started can finish. Other devices keep their own sync setting. Switching sync off does not erase existing iCloud data. Local edits can sync when you turn it back on.
How do I add a Lock Screen card?
On iPhone or iPad, customize the Lock Screen and add fewlines → Book text. The larger card is a separate Live Activity for a reading session. Its settings are in Settings → Large Lock Screen card. A Live Activity is temporary: the system limits active sessions to up to 8 hours and may retain an ended card for up to 4 more hours. Automatic display can schedule a following session on supported systems; it is not an unlimited background timer.
How do I use the Mac card and widget?
Choose Settings → Desktop card and widget → Show my card now. Hover just above the floating card for arrows, the favorite star and the hide menu. The menu-bar icon can show it again. To add a desktop widget, open Edit Widgets on your desktop and choose fewlines → Reading card. Its arrows and star work on the saved book even when you read locally.
How do favorites work?
The star saves the sentences touched by a card. Gold means saved; a half-filled star means some sentences are already saved. Click or tap a half-filled star to save the rest. Favorites keeps your quotes when you remove a book from Library. Remove a quote from Favorites to delete that saved text too.
How do I read or listen?
Choose Continue reading. Use the left and right sides of the reading view, its arrows or a swipe to turn cards. On Mac, ← and → work from the keyboard and Escape closes the reader. Read aloud uses installed system voices; choose a voice in Settings. The text follows the narration.
Does the camera background record me?
No. On iPhone and iPad it displays a blurred rear-camera preview on your device, without recording photos, video or microphone audio. You can deny camera permission and continue reading on Black. On Mac, Frosted glass uses a system material instead of a camera.
How do I remove my reading data?
Delete books in Library and quotes in Favorites. With sync enabled, let your devices connect and finish syncing so deletion reaches them. Cloud book text is removed after a successful sync; small deletion markers prevent old offline copies from returning. See the Privacy Policy for local files, iCloud storage and support data.
