Privacy Policy

fewlines is made by Yurii Ugarov, operating as Another Good Way in Prague, Czechia. This policy covers the fewlines apps for iPhone, iPad and Mac and these product pages.

Your books and reading data

fewlines stores imported book text, titles, authors, available cover images, reading positions, saved passages and settings on your device. Importing creates an app-managed copy; the original file remains where you selected it. Your setup answers, theme and selected voice are stored locally.

You do not need a separate fewlines account. The app has no advertising, cross-app tracking or third-party analytics SDK. It does not send your book text to an AI or speech service operated by Another Good Way.

Optional iCloud sync

When sync is enabled, fewlines sends your book content, library information, reading positions, favorites and card settings to your private CloudKit database in your Apple Account. Apple provides this storage and synchronization service. The app also uses Apple’s push-notification service to learn when your cloud data changes.

You can switch sync off in Settings → iCloud sync. This stops new cloud requests from that device, including its Mac widget, and keeps local reading available. A transfer already in progress may finish. Switching sync off does not delete information already stored in iCloud or switch it off on your other devices.

Another Good Way does not operate a server containing your synced library. Your Apple Account and Apple’s services are governed by Apple’s privacy policy. CloudKit sync is not a promise of end-to-end encryption by fewlines.

Book catalogs and cover images

If you browse Project Gutenberg or Unglue.it, your searches and book requests are sent to the selected catalog. Loading catalog cover images and downloading books also connects to the source’s servers. They receive ordinary network information such as your IP address and request headers, including the fewlines app version. These requests are needed to display and download the books you choose.

The sources have their own privacy practices: Project Gutenberg and Unglue.it. You can use local file import without browsing either catalog.

Camera and read aloud

On iPhone and iPad, the optional Frosted glass background requests access to the rear camera. Its preview is processed on the device while you read. fewlines does not record or upload camera images, video or microphone audio. Choose the Black background to read without camera access. The Mac background uses a system material and does not access the camera.

Read aloud uses Apple’s installed system voices. fewlines does not upload your text to an external voice provider. Downloading additional voices is handled by your operating system.

Cards visible outside the app

If you enable a Lock Screen card or add a widget, an excerpt from your book can be visible to someone looking at your screen. The Mac floating card can also appear over other windows. Hide the card, end the Live Activity or remove the widget whenever you want to keep your reading private.

Keeping and deleting data

Reading data stays on your device until you remove it or remove the app and its stored data. With sync enabled, deleting a book queues removal of its text from the synced library and its separate cloud book asset when the device next connects successfully. Saved quotes are kept until you remove them from Favorites.

Small deletion records, containing identifiers and revision information rather than the deleted book text, remain in the sync metadata to prevent an offline device from restoring old content. Already downloaded copies on offline devices remain until those devices synchronize. Cloud transfer failures can delay deletion.

To remove your reading content, delete the books in Library and the saved passages in Favorites while sync is enabled, then let each device sync. You can also manage the app’s iCloud data through your Apple Account’s iCloud storage settings. Removing the app alone may leave iCloud data and copies on your other devices. Original files outside fewlines are never deleted by removing a book from the app.
